Welcome to 5th grade! I am looking forward to working with you and your child as we navigate the 5th grade curriculum. Your child will fine-tune his/her reading skills, expand his/her math skills, investigate the country we live in and its history, as well as explore our world through scientific exploration. This is my fourth year teaching 5th grade at WNIS. Prior to 5th grade, I spent seven years teaching 6th grade reading at Holley Navarre Middle School. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Language Arts. I also am Reading certified, ESOL certified, and National Board certified in Reading. I am originally from Indiana, but have lived the past 13 years here in Gulf Breeze (and don’t miss the cold at all!). I am married and have two children. My husband is the dean at Gulf Breeze High School and the head softball coach. My daughter, Kaylee, is a sophomore at Navarre High School and my son, Brent, is an eighth grader at Woodlawn Beach. I also have four dogs: Riley, a Yorkie-poo; Chipper, a Chihuahua mix; Peyton, a Cairn terrier mix; Lady, a border collie. Needless to say, between the children and dogs I am kept quite busy. When I do get time to myself, I enjoy reading, browsing Pinterest, and working on DIY projects for my house. I know this will be a great year and can’t wait to get started! If at any time you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to email or text me (text “@tomeys” to 81010 to get started). I will respond within 24 hours.
