As we welcome our Navigators back from summer vacation we would like to let our parents know about what is happening at the PE department. Safety has been our primary focus of the first few weeks at PE. Since we have so many new faces, it is important that every student knows our rules and what is expected from them on a daily bases. As a parent you can help us out by making sure that your child is coming to school in the proper attire. As you can imagine correct shoes are very important to being physical. Please have your students bring tennis shoes to PE every day. Examples of improper shoes would be Crocs, sandals, flip-flops, and boots. Giving a daily reminder to you child can be a big help to ensure they remember their shoes. In addition to shoes, wearing the proper clothing is essential. During the next few months it will be very warm outside when your child comes to PE. Allowing them to come to school in comfortable and moveable clothing is best. If the classroom teacher has their room to cool for short sleeves, suggest that your child wear a jacket that they can take off when it is time to go outside. These little tips can make a big difference in the quality of experience your child has at PE. Let’s make this a meaningful and memorable year together.
West Navarre Intermediate Parents:
West Navarre Intermediate’s physical education philosophy is:
To encourage each child to develop their optimum level of health and physical fitness and to acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and movement skills that will lead to lifelong participation in enjoyable and wholesome physical activities.
A list of the activities and lessons that may be included in our program this year are listed:
As part of your child’s education, his / her class will be participating in physical education (PE). Physical education activities are planned according to season with heat index / extreme cold being considered. In order to make this PE experience safe and successful, we would appreciate your support in the following ways:
Dress your child appropriately for physical activity. In the hot months this will include shorts (to the finger tips), t-shirts, and tennis shoes. Please encourage your child to wear appropriate shoes. This factor alone helps increase performance and decrease accidents.
Please let us know if your child has any health or medical concerns related to physical activity (asthma, allergies, injuries, etc.) Also, if your child is sick or injured, send a note stating specifically what their limits are. For example, if they can go outside and watch his / her class or if they need to stay inside. A parent note may excuse a child for 3 days, after that a doctor’s note is required. This is school board policy.
Your child’s grade will be determined by an average of 3 areas; physical fitness, motor skill development, and participation / behavior. We are aware that at their age children have a wide range of physical abilities and interests. All we ask is that you support us by encouraging you child to do his / her best.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to send a note or call us at 936-6060. We are looking forward to working with your child this year. Hopefully we will have a fun, safe, and productive year.
